ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WKOW) – The National Weather Service confirmed nine tornados tore through the Tampa Bay region on Thursday.
As many as 18,000 residents are still without power on Friday,.
The storms destroyed dozens of homes, flooded roads and toppled trucks and small planes.
The weather service says tornados with winds from 86 to 110 mph hit Polk, Hillsborough and Pinellas counties.
A tent collapsed in Lakeland and injured seven people gathered for the annual Sun 'n Fun aviation festival. A few small planes flipped over at the St. Petersburg-Clearwater Airport.
Strong winds blew a Carnival cruise ship from its dock at Cape Canaveral.
