MADISON (WKOW) - Helping a mom get the phone she ordered, a family fix a driveway with problems, and a woman have her car serviced free of charge. It's just some of what's been accomplished by the efforts of this small room with a big mission. It's run by people who care. Call for Action volunteers have been standing-up for Madison consumers since 2009.
In just two years, the team has recovered more than $435,000. Putting that cash back into the pockets of people who called for help.
"They weren't returning any phone calls so I decided to give you guys a shot," said Troy Mancusi, who had a 3 year old driveway falling apart.
"It was cratered really bad, pockmarked and literally crumbling," he said.
The concrete company refused to come out and fix the problem - caused by a bad mix of concrete. That's until Call for Action got involved.
A few phone calls later, Troy got a new driveway worth $8,000.
"I don't think I would have been able to get any results had I not gone through "27", said Troy.
Then, there was Rochelle Nord.
"If an emergency happens, I need to have a phone," she said.
A woman who couldn't afford a phone but qualified for a free one through a Wisconsin program called Safelink. Problem was she never received it in the mail.
"I kept calling and calling and it just kept going and I kept waiting and waiting and that's when I called Call for Action," said Nord. "And three or four days later I had my phone."
and Dawn Miller, who paid $1,200 for a car warranty only to find out that the company that provided it would not cover the needed repairs.
To the delight of dawn's father 'Call for Action' stepped in.
"And then things started happening within a half an hour," he said.
