PORTAGE (WKOW) -- The Wisconsin River in Portage has receded to 16.1 feet, as of 8:00 a.m. Monday.

As residents continue the cleanup process, the City of Portage will pick up used sandbags that are placed on pallets on the curb.

You can also drop off used sandbags at the Columbia County Highway Shop at 338 West Old Highway 16 in Wyocena between 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Those dropping off sandbags must check in at the Highway Department Operations Office.

The following road closures are in effect as of Monday:

  • CTH VJ in the Town of Dekorra from Hwy 51 to CTH J is closed until the bridge on CTH VJ  can be inspected.
  • Blackhawk, West Lane, Lake and Old River Road in the Blackhawk Park area are still under water and closed.

MADISON (WKOW) -- The Wisconsin River in Portage is now the fifth-highest flood on record.

At midnight Thursday, the river crested at 19.6 at the Kilbourn Dam.

The following roads remain closed Thursday afternoon:

  •  Levee Road from Highway 33 (at Blystones Towing) to the Sauk County Line is closed until further notice due to water over the roadway.
  •  CTH V in the Town of Dekorra from Oak Knol Rd. to Schefelbein Rd is closed with water over the roadway.
  •  CTH VJ in the Town of Dekorra from Hwy 51 to CTH J is closed with water over the roadway
  •  Blackhawk, West Lane, Lake and Old River Road in the Blackhawk Park area are also under water and closed.
  •  Wood Street/ Blackhawk road (road into the Black Hawk Park area) has water over it at two spots the deepest is less than 3" and is closed.

Free flood cleanup kits will be available Friday at the Columbia County Law Enforcement Center in Portage. The Town of Dekorra will also make kits available at the town recycling center starting on Saturday.

Free well water test kits are available Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM at Columbia County Health & Human Services 2652 Murphy Road in Portage.
