Orfordville (WKOW) - Brenda Klein has a passion for memories. She's been scrapbooking them for years. But there are several memories, she'd rather forget.
"At practices, I started having really sharp pains, said her 18 year old daughter Shannon.
Her daughter Shannon's injury, the following hip surgery, and then what came next.
"About two months later we got denied," said Brenda. "We got the insurance papers and we were denied."
Brenda says Principal Life Insurance had told her that her daughter's operation would be covered. Instead, she got billed $22,000. It put major stress on her husband.
"I mean he works hard. We are trying to raised 4 kids," said Brenda. "I mean that's a huge financial setback."
The Kleins started paying the debt. In the meantime, they appealed. Each time, they were denied. Principal Life kept citing the surgery as being "experimental". Then, at a friend's suggestion, Brenda called 27 news for help.
"You guys went into action and within 3 weeks this was taken care of," said Brenda.
The next letter from Principal Life said it had "reconsidered". The insurance company decided to cover all the cost of the surgery minus the deductible. That's $19,000.
"I couldn't believe it almost at first cause a lot of pressure just left the entire family," said Shannon.
"Unbelievable," said Brenda. "My husband looks 10 years younger."
And that's something for the memory books.
