Challenger to face Sen. Wirch if recall election moves forward
KENOSHA (WKOW) -- A longtime Kenosha County Board Supervisor wants to run against Senator Robert Wirch if a recall election is scheduled in his district.
Fred Ekornaas of Bristol says he was outraged that 14 Democrats fled the state earlier this year to stall legislative action on Gov. Walker's proposal to end collective bargaining for most public employees.
Wisconsin Democrats are challenging thousands of signatures collected to recall Wirch of Pleasant Prairie and two other Democratic senators.
The 70-year-old Ekornaas served two terms as county sheriff' in the 1980s as a Democrat, but he says the party has veered to the left since then
Ekornaas is entering the race without the endorsement of local Republican Party leaders and other candidates could emerge.
