Call for Action: Woman asks for help with door-to-door meat purchase

Posted:

It started with this:

"A salesman knocked on the door," said Corrine Arneson.

Somebody trying to sell boxes of meat.

"He said, 'I just delivered some meat to your neighbor down the road'," said Corrine.

Corrine agreed to buy six for $120, only to notice later that one box didn't look so good.

Dark and rotten looking, Corrine wanted an exchange and the company- Good Times Meats - promised a 100 percent guarantee with exchanges for up to a year. But her and her son Alan say they both called the owner multiple times.

"He kinda blew it off and said "I will have one of my guys stop by sometime'," said Alan. "That was a couple months ago."

"I don't appreciate somebody who doesn't stand behind their warranty," said Corrine.

Call for Action stepped-in and talked to the owner by phone.

"We live in central Wisconsin so we don't go down there that often," said Bryan Boyles, owner of Good Times Meats.

Apparently, that's the crux of the problem. Good Times Meats is located in Mosinee - a 2.5 hour drive to Corrine's house in Stoughton.

"So in a situation where you are trying to exchange it would be a little bit hard because you guys are so far away," asked Reporter Sabrina Hall.

"Exactly," said Boyles.

A big trek to back-up a guarantee. And a meaty lesson for Corrine.

"I would say don't buy any meat from someone that comes to the door," she said.

Good Times Meat has offered to write Corrine a check for the meat and send it to her in the mail.

We checked with the Better Business Bureau and there are no complaints filed against Good Times but there were plenty of complaints against other door-to-door meat sales companies. That's why the BB has this advice for consumers:
