MADISON (WKOW) -- The Henry Vilas Zoo in Madison is celebrating a big anniversary this year.
The zoo is a 100 years old in 2011.
To kick off its 100 day long celebration, zoo organizers held a century birthday party.
They say it'll always remain a free zoo for all.
"It's actually in the deed to the county that it will remain free for everyone, but in 100 years, lots of changes to the zoo," said Suzy Reynolds, Henry Vilas Zoo Events Director.
The anniversary celeration this summer marks the culmination of a ten year zoo century campaign.
They're still hoping to build a home for their polar bear, and other cold-climate animals.
Vilas Zoo will commemorate its 100th year in Madison with 100 days of celebration, beginning May 28, with the Zoo Century Birthday Party. The day will feature a cake contest, where Dane County bakeries will display their most creative Henry Vilas Zoo birthday cake, as well as painting, a bounce house and clown magic.
There are a series of events planned over the 100 days. You can check out the list at www.vilaszoo.org.
Henry Vilas Zoo is free to the public and open every day of the year.
