MADISON (WKOW) -- Gov. Scott Walker issued a statement Friday saying any concealed carry bill that reaches his desk should require permits and training provisions.
Republican lawmakers are considering two bills that would allow residents to carry concealed weapons. One bill would require a permit but no training. The other does not require any permit or training prerequisites, a nod to gun enthusiasts who believe they have the constitutional right to bear arms without restrictions.
Police are calling for permits and a database that officers could check to see if people they encounter might be carrying.
