FORT ATKINSON (WKOW) -- Sometimes to make a big difference, all it takes is a giving heart, a little footwork and some heavy lifting.
Some people might not know what it's like to live without air conditioning.
"Oh my gosh! It was horrible," said Michelle Weaver.
Michelle Weaver is passing it forward. She once lived in an apartment with no AC until somebody gave her one. Now, she's passing it along to Brenda. Michelle saw Brenda on 27 News talking about what it is like to be a low-income resident with no AC.
"I have diabetes and I get a lot of infections from the heat," said Brenda Engelhart.
After the segment, Michelle got Brenda's number and gave her a call. She told Brenda about the extra AC unit sitting in her basement.
Michelle described Brenda's reaction.
"'Really? And it's free? And I can just have it?' and I said 'yes! you certainly may.'"
"I was very shocked because usually stuff doesn't happen for me this easy," said Brenda.
And with a bit of a group effort -- even our photographer got involved -- we got that AC into Brenda's apartment. And guess what? It was a perfect fit.
"Thank you Michelle!," said Brenda.
"I hope this helps her so much cause everyday it should be so much better," said Michelle.
And with a hug, our teamwork here was done.
If you happen to have an extra AC unit lying around that you would like to donate, the non-profit Saint Vincent de Paul says it will even come to your house to pick it up. The home pick-up number is 278-2920.
