MILWAUKEE (AP) - Matt Garza allowed two hits over eight innings to rebound from a horrendous outing for the Milwaukee Brewers in a 9-1 victory over the Mets last night. Garza yielded a third-inning single to Wilmer Flores and a seventh-inning homer to Lucas Duda. Garza struck out four and walked one. The Mets sent only 31 batters to the plate.
MILWAUKEE (AP) - The New York Mets have recalled infielder Wilmer Flores from Triple-A Las Vegas a day after shortstop Ruben Tejada was hit in the helmet by a pitch. The Mets optioned outfielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis to Las Vegas before yesterday's game at Milwaukee. Flores was in the lineup and started at shortstop.
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) - The Green Bay Packers painted a rosy forecast of the future to shareholders of the NFL's only publicly-owned franchise. Players report for training camp Friday. The topic of Brett Favre's return came up again yesterday with reporters after team president Mark Murphy spoke at the shareholders meeting at Lambeau Field. Murphy said he is hopeful that Favre can return for a game this year.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Hector Noesi (noh-eh-SEE') allowed three hits over 7 2-3 innings to lead the Chicago White Sox to a 5-2 victory over the Minnesota Twins last night. Noesi gave up two runs, struck out three and walked one in an impressive performance. Phil Hughes gave up two runs and four hits and struck out four for the Twins.
