Methodist pastors violating same-sex marriage rule
MILWAUKEE (WKOW) -- A growing number of pastors in the United Methodist Church say they will no longer obey a rule banning them from officiating same-sex marriages.
There has been little backlash from the denomination as many pastors have been marrying same-sex couples and conducting same-sex blessing ceremonies. Church trials of these pastors have been sporadic, once every few years, but that doesn't mean officials aren't recognizing the trials as a threat.
The Rev. Amy DeLong of Osceola, Wis., will start a three-day trial Tuesday on charges of violating a church prohibition on the ordination of "self-avowed practicing homosexuals" and marrying a lesbian couple.
