Steve Stricker back in Madison for annual VSA exhibition

MADISON (WKOW)-  Less than 24 hours removed from the US Open in Bethesda, Maryland, Steve Stricker was in Madison for the 14th annual VSA golf exhibition at Cherokee Country Club today.  It was a much needed break from the grind for a good cause to benefit people with disabilities and their love for the arts.

Says Steve Stricker, "You know I look forward to this day every year.  You see a lot of the same people that come to support this event so it's pretty cool, it's a good day for us.  This traveling and this game can take up a lot of time so you wanna make sure you pull away and spend the time with the family and do some other things.  This is a great out today, to have some fun, see some people, play nine holes and loosen up a little bit."

Stricker arrived last night after the US Open at Congressional where he finished at one-under for the tournament.  But of course that was still 15 shots back of the champion Rory McIlroy who blew away the entire field."

Says Stricker, "What he did yesterday was pretty special, winning by eight shots so he's a tremendous talent and he's only 22 years old, that's the scary part."

Though he might not have been able to catch McIlroy, Stricker did expect a little more from himself after winning the Memorial a couple weeks ago."

Says Stricker, "A little bittersweet really, I had it going yesterday, I got it to five-under and then made a double at number 12 and kinda took the wind out of my sails.  I did some good things but also did some bad things yesterday too."

Next up on tour for Stricker are the John Deere Classic in Silvis, Illinois the second weekend in July followed by the Open Championship at Royal St. George's the following weekend.
