MADISON (WKOW) -- Democratic U.S. Rep. Tammy Baldwin says a run for the U.S. Senate seat is "likely."
Baldwin told The Capital Times in an interview that she is still gathering more information about a Senate run, but she is "likely to run." Democrat Herb Kohl announced earlier this year he was leaving office to retire.
Baldwin told The Capital Times that possibly running for the Senate "is something I take very seriously." Baldwin's spokeswoman declined to comment on the report or make Baldwin available on Tuesday.
A number of Republicans and Democrats have expressed interest in running for the seat after Kohl announced in May that he would not seek a fifth term.
Also on Tuesday, Republican state Sen. Frank Lasee of De Pere said he was considering running.
