Joint Legislative Commitee approves 13 additional weeks of unemployment benefits
Up to 40,000 out of work Wisconsin residents are one step closer to getting an additional 13 weeks of unemployment insurance compensation. The Joint Legislative Committee on Labor Affairs overwhelmingly passed measures Monday morning to extend the benefits which are paid in full by the federal government. If the full legislature gives its approval the state will pay out an additional 89 million dollars in federal unemployment compensation through January 4th of 2012. Coming up on 27 News at Six we'll hear from one freshman legislator who helped write this legislation after being unemployed for more than a year.
