MADISON (WKOW) -- This kind of weather can be dangerous, especially for the elderly and the young.
But about 100 little league players toughed it out anyway. The 10 and 11-year-olds played on the east side of Madison Monday night.
Parents were concerned about their children playing in temperatures reaching about 90 degrees Monday night. Extra precautions were made to make sure they stayed safe even before the game began.
"We've been talking to the kids over a week now telling them to drink a lot of water in advance of the game not the night before the game so we've been preaching to them to drink a lot of fluid." said Mike McGowan, Assistant Coach for the Verona Little League.
In between innings the players drank water, and put wet towels around their necks in the shade.
For spectators, tents and a water sprinkler, so everyone could cool off.
A pediatrician says these steps are important for children, because they can dehydrate more easily than adults.
"When we sweat it comes out of tissue and blood stream and they just don't have as big of volume so its quick to go that way cause they just don't have as much," said Dr. Conrad Andringa, Dean Clinic Pediatrician.
The doctor says signs your child is having trouble in the sun is if they have a dry mouth..
Their body temperature is going up, and if they're drinking lots of fluids, but not going to the bathroom.
