MADISON (WKOW) -- The Madison Police Department is releasing new details in a fatal crash which shut down the Beltline Tuesday morning.
Madison Police Traffic Specialists say a pickup truck, a semi trailer, and a passenger car were all heading westbound when they collided. Exactly how it took place is under investigation. As a result of the collision, both the semi and the pickup left the westbound lanes, entered the median, and rolled over into the eastbound lanes of traffic.
The pickup driver, a 55-year-old Dane County man, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The semi driver was transported to a hospital with non life-threatening injuries. The car driver was also taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
The semi was transporting bags of fertilizer. Many ended up in traffic lanes, and some spilled their contents, requiring the Department of Natural Resources to be notified.
Traffic Specialists are asking that anyone who witnessed the crash call 266-5981.

MADISON (WKOW) -- One person is dead in a morning crash on the Beltline in Madison.
The Madison Police Department responded to the report of a injury accident Tuesday morning on the Beltline between Stoughton Road and the Interstate. Upon the initial investigation, Madison Police Dept. spokesman Joel DeSpain says it appears a pickup truck and semi pulling a flat bed truck collided in the WB lanes and the collision ended in the EB lanes of traffic. In addition to the semi and truck, a third vehicle was involved.

The driver of the pickup truck died on scene. There were two other drivers transported to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.
Madison police in conjunction with Wisconsin State Patrol are investigating the cause of the crash.
MADISON (WKOW) -- Crews are on the scene of a rollover accident in the city of Madison. Officials report the accident may involve multiple patients on Eastbound Beltline Hwy 18 just east of I-90.
Traffic on the eastbound Beltline has been shut down as well as one lane of the westbound highway. MedFlight was requested to the scene. The WisDOT says a delivery truck traveling westbound flipped over the median wall and landed upside down in the eastbound lane.
Clean up is underway, but traffic is expected to be backed up for more than two hours, according to WisDOT.
