Driver arrested after allegedly driving stolen car

FITCHBURG (WKOW) --   A man is arrested after police say he drove a stolen car, and led police on a short chase.

It happened around 1:15 Saturday afternoon. When an officer tried to stop a stolen car, a passenger jumped out and ran away. The driver took off at a high rate of speed, then pulled into an apartment complex on the 2900 block of Fish Hatchery Road.

Police say the driver, Byron C. Shaw of Deerfield, jumped out of the car while it was still moving and fled. The car went off an embankment and struck an apartment building, causing minor damage to the building. No injuries were reported.

A second Fitchburg Officer located a person walking on Fish Hatchery Rd, matching the description of the driver. Shaw was arrested for Operating a Motor Vehicle Without Owner's Consent and Fleeing an Officer.
