MADISON (WKOW) -- Wisconsin's mourning dove hunting season opens next week. If you are a hunter, it's a good time to review the rules and regulations, this year.
Hunters will be able to shoot the state's official peace symbol from Sept. 1 through Nov. 9. The state Department of Natural Resources estimates Wisconsin hunters harvest about 140,000 birds every year, but wildlife experts say the overall population is growing.
Hunters must use a plugged shotgun with no more than three shells in the magazine and chamber combined. They also must use nontoxic shot on all state-managed lands.
