MADISON (WKOW) -- "One weekend a month, two weeks a year." That was once the recruiting slogan of the National Guard.
"The thought of joining the National Guard was you might be mobilized once in a career, 20, 25 years for a really big event," says Maj. Gen. Don Dunbar.
9/11 changed that for good.
In fact, as soon as the Army could get them the proper equipment, Wisconsin National Guard units began deploying overseas in great numbers.
"And what we've seen in the last ten years is multiple units being deployed, repetitively....over 14 thousand soldiers and airmen being deployed, many of them multiple times."
