State Sen. Erpenbach not running for Congress

MADISON (WKOW) -- State Sen. Jon Erpenbach (D-Middleton) says he won't run for Congress.

Erpenbach made the announcement Tuesday on his Facebook page. The democrat says he's decided against running for the 2nd Congressional District seat being vacated by Rep. Tammy Baldwin, who's running for the U.S. Senate seat to be vacated by Herb Kohl. Erpenbach says he's choosing to "stay here and fight."

Two Democratic state representatives, Mark Pocan and Kelda Helen Roys, have announced they are running, along with Dane County Treasurer Dave Worzala. No Republicans have entered the race.

Erpenbach's Facebook message did not address whether he would run in a recall election targeting Republican Gov. Scott Walker. Erpenbach was one of the 14 Democrats who fled to Illinois earlier this year in opposition to Walker's collective bargaining bill.
