Former Gov. Tommy Thompson takes next step in Senate run
MADISON (WKOW) -- Former Wisconsin Gov. Tommy Thompson has signed a pledge not to raise taxes on the same day he filed paperwork allowing his U.S. Senate campaign committee to raise and spend money on his behalf.
Thompson's campaign released this statement via email Tuesday:
Today, I filed my statement of candidacy for the office of United States Senate.
I'm ready for the fight ahead and, as you know, no one is better prepared to fix the mess in Washington than I am.
While I'll be making a formal announcement in the future, I wish to take this opportunity to share with you my ongoing commitment to providing tax relief to the people of Wisconsin.
Thompson signed the"Taxpayer Protection Pledge" from Americans For Tax Reform. It commits candidates and office holders to oppose all net tax increases. Click here to view the pledge.
Thompson is running to fill retiring Herb Kohl's Senate seat.
