MADISON (WKOW) - Fabu Carter has a way with words. She's the city of Madison's appointed poet laureate.
"It's about putting poetry in unusual places and spaces," she said.
But even with her mastery of the English language, she says she just couldn't solve her consumer problem
"I could get no where," said Fabu. "Just no where."
Fabu bought a laptop back in January for her young niece, who was entering her first year of college in Tennessee. But in 7 months, she says the Toshiba laptop broke down three times.
"She sent it in July and this time they said it was not under warranty and I had to pay 311 dollars to have it repaired," said Fabu.
First, it wouldn't turn on, then the screen had issues, now it's the wireless card.
"And they said the wireless card was dead," said Fabu. "She couldn't even register it."
Now her niece Mauricia is stuck using the campus computers.
"To me, it's an injustice," she said.
Fabu would like to see more than just another repair.
"Because if you have a product and it needs three repairs and you haven't even had it a year - then, to me, that means its defective," said Fabu.
After she made dozens of phone calls, "Call for Action" got involved. We made contact with Toshiba, who agreed to give Mauricia new laptop and Fabu a refund of her warranty.
A happy ending for this poet, who still has a final word and thought for her young niece.
"I'd like to send a message to her - you always stand up for yourself," said Fabu.
