MADISON (WKOW) -- Cub Foods will close its two remaining stores in Madison next year.
The food and pharmacy retailer, based in Stillwater, Minnesota, will close both stores by mid-January.
The store at 7455 Mineral Point Road, was sold and will re-open as a Metcalfe's Market.
The in-store Associated Bank branch in the Cub store at 4141 Nakoosa Trail has been notified of this change. The in-store Cub pharmacies will close within the next couple of weeks, although final plans are still being determined. As more information is known, it will be shared with patients.
Cub will work closely with the stores' approximately 150 associates or their bargaining representatives as this change takes place.
According to a release from the company: "The decision to close any store is difficult, because of the impact on associates, customers and the community at large. However, in a highly competitive marketplace, Cub must take steps to improve the strength of its company overall while positioning itself for the future."
"The two Madison stores are closing after more than 25 years of operation, and Cub would like to thank the stores' customers for their patronage."
