UW men's hockey team prepares for No. 1 Minnesota

MADISON (WKOW) -- The UW men's hockey team has struggled this season to find its rhythm. It's a young team with a lot of heart but a lot to learn, as well.

Head coach Mike Eaves says his biggest concern right now is penalty killing.

Saturday's game ended a three-game streak in which the Badgers allowed at least two power play goals.

Wisconsin will need to play much better to stand a chance against top-seeded Minnesota this weekend in a border battle at the Kohl Center. Coach Eaves says he shouldn't have any problem getting his guys motivated to up their game.

"I mean, it's Minnesota; the guys are gonna get all juiced up to play. Our job as a coaching staff is to make sure they don't get over-excited and emotionally jazzed so they can't play with poise and confidence. You still have to find that level as an athlete to play in that flow state that gives you the best chance to play well," said Eaves.

The puck drops at 7:00 p.m. on Friday and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday in the weekend series.
