Minnesota men's hockey team beats Wisconsin 4-1 Saturday

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- One night after losing its first game as the top-ranked team in the nation, Minnesota routed Wisconsin 4-1 on Saturday to earn a split in their Western Collegiate Hockey Association series.

Taylor Mattson and Nate Condon had a goal and assist apiece as Minnesota coach Don Lucia picked up his 300th career win as Golden Gophers head coach.

The top-ranked Gophers (10-2-0, 7-1-1) lost 3-1 on Friday.

Minnesota took a 1-0 lead on Seth Helgeson's wrister through traffic at 6:14 of the first period.

But the Badgers got the equalizer late when Tyler Barnes redirected a pass through the crease with 3:36 left in the period.

After a scoreless second period, Minnesota scored three times in the third, while outshooting the Badgers 13-5 in shots on goal.

Wisconsin (5-6-1, 4-5-1) got 29 saves from Joel Rumpel, including 10 in the third period.
