ROCK COUNTY (WKOW) -- Opponents of Governor Walker spent the day collecting signatures across the state.
They now have 60 days to collect 540,000 signatures to force a recall election.
The effort was well-underway in Janesville Tuesday evening.
Opponents of Governor Walker held a rally in Janesville Tuesday afternoon, creating lines of people waiting to sign their name.
Lonnie Brown, of Milton, said, "I feel Governor Walker is going the wrong way with our state... we just have too much too lose."
Some say they're fighting budget cuts to education; others say they're fighting the newly imposed limits to collective bargaining in the state.
Student Amanda Bender printed out petition sheets herself for others to sign. In the 2010 general election, Rock County voters supported Democratic candidate Tom Barrett over Scott Walker by a small margin.
Bender said, "He needs to see it's not just me being affected, it's affecting my kids, everybody."
Janesville had the highest unemployment rate of Wisconsin metro areas in September with 9 percent. But last September, the area had 9.7 percent.
Jason Mielke, the Chair of the Republican Party of Rock County, said, "For all of the talk, all of the noise they're making, they haven't offered any alternative."
Mielke said, "We are seeing good paying jobs come in, and it's by using the money allocated for Wisconsin's businesses. We've seen results coming in now, and those are direct results of reforms the state has taken up."
There are two separate petitions one for the governor and one for the lieutenant governor. Both need 540,000 signatures to force a recall.
Janesville organizers said they'd collected more than 500 signatures Tuesday.
