MADISON (WKOW) -- Organizers of the effort to recall Gov. Walker say they're slightly ahead of expectations.
A spokeswoman for United Wisconsin says in the first 48 hours they collected 50,000 signatures. They need to average 9,000 signatures a day to get the 540,000 they need to force a recall election.
Organizers say they want to collect more than that in case some signatures are invalidated.
They have until January 17 to return the petitions.
The spokeswoman says more than 20,000 people have downloaded petitions from the group's website.
