GOP criticizes plans for recall work near malls

Posted:

MADISON (WKOW) -- Store managers are not the only ones hoping to attract Black Friday crowds. Democrats are setting up near crowded shopping centers Friday to gather signatures to petition to recall Gov. Scott Walker.

Republicans are criticizing the move, saying Democrats are "harassing" shoppers.

"I doubt these businesses wish their stores to be associated with what is purely a partisan ploy, and these selfish acts on the part of the liberal activists will no doubt adversely affect these businesses," said Ben Sparks, communications director for the Republican Party of Wisconsin.

The party says businesses should call police if people gathering signatures do not leave their property upon request.

A United Wisconsin spokeswoman says volunteers will be on public spaces near malls and busy areas.
