JANESVILLE (WKOW) -- Students at a Janesville school are getting a computer upgrade thanks to the US Army.
Oakhill Christian School's computers hadn't been replaced in some 20 years when the Army stepped in and donated 40 laptops to the school. Oakhill Principal James Eaker says the three to four year old computers are "a pretty big blessing."
In addition to the laptops, the Army sent replacement parts, keyboards and hard drives. Eaker estimates the total donation to be worth $10,000 to $14,000.
A report by the Janesville Gazette says when the Army replaces its computers, it doesn't destroy the old ones. The computer hard drives are wiped clean and the Army simply donates the old machines to schools.
Any school can apply for the program.
An Army official told the Gazette the military has distributed about 350 computers to the Tomah and Sparta areas in the past three years.
