SPARTA, Wis. (WKOW) -- A former commander at Fort McCoy says he's running for western Wisconsin's 3rd Congressional District.

Ray Boland, who is running as a Republican, is a retired colonel and former state Secretary of Veteran Affairs. He retired from Fort McCoy in 1991 and served in state government until 2003. He lives in Sparta with his wife Donna.

The 3rd congressional seat is currently held by Democrat Ron Kind, who has held that position since 1996.
