MADISON (WKOW) -- Student test scores can now be used as a reason to fire a teacher in Wisconsin.
A bill signed into law Wednesday by Governor Scott Walker allows the scores to be used as one of multiple reasons to discipline or fire a teacher.
Test scores alone could not be used to discipline a teacher.
Previously, standardized test scores could be one of several factors used to evaluate a teacher's performance, but it couldn't be used to discipline them.
Walker says the new law provides flexibility to school districts to reward the best teachers, help mentor those who are struggling and hold those who don't improve accountable to help improve education for all students.
