Felony charge in case of defaced recall petition

Posted:

WASHINGTON COUNTY (WKOW) -- A 30-year-old man has been charged with felony election fraud - falsifying or destroying nomination papers, and recall petitions, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

According to the criminal complaint, Jeffrey Karnitz, of West Bend, stopped at a recall petition signing station and scribbled on two petitions, one seeking recall of Walker, and one seeking recall of Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch.

The charge is punishable by up to 18 months in prison and a $10,000 fine.

After scribbling out names, he drove off. Recall volunteers got his license plate number and called police.

Karnitz is expected to be in court on January 6.
