WHITEWATER (WKOW) -- Like last-minute shopping and choosing the perfect tree, it's become a holiday tradition for the UW-Whitewater football team to make the trip to Salem, Virginia for the division 3 national championship.
For the seventh year in a row, Whitewater will face Mount Union in the Stagg Bowl Friday night at 7:00.
On Tuesday, the Warhawks held their final practice at home before loading up the bus and heading out to Virginia.
It's become routine for the Warhawks to do this year after year, but that doesn't make it any less rewarding.
"You can tell they're excited and ready to go. All that work and all those early-morning practices and two-a-days at fall camp and all the hours that this group has put it -- this is part of the reward," said head coach Lance Leipold.
"Once we put on the suit and tie [to leave], that's kind of the trigger that it's happening, that this is for real. Getting on the bus, then getting on the plane, it just kind of starts it all off," said Kris Rosholt, the Whitewater punter from Reedsburg.
