MADISON (WKOW) -- Local swimmers were in for a treat Saturday morning when Olympic medalist Neil Walker helped coach a clinic.
Walker is a Verona native and started his career at the Verona Aquatic Club. He won gold, silver and bronze medals during the 2000 and 2004 games.
Walker says it's important to inspire local swimmers.
"It seems like a big leap to go from the level the kids are at to where I ended up but it's really not. It's little leaps that are one right on top of the other that's really how you get to that high level," says Walker.
Coaches say it's important to have Walker there to show that even small-town kids can make it to the Olympics.
