WASHINGTON (WKOW) -- Safety officials say consumers with a Hamilton Beach classic chrome two-slice toaster should immediately stop using it, over fire hazard concerns.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is recalling about 14,000 toasters because when they're first plugged into outlets, the
heating element can be energized although the toaster lifter is in the
up or off position, which can pose a fire hazard if the toaster is near
flammable items.
Hamilton
Beach has received five reports of toasters being energized when first
plugged into an outlet. There have been no reports of injuries or
property damage.
The recall involves Hamilton Beach model 22602 toasters.
The recalled toasters were sold nationwide from August 2011 through November 2011 for between $19 and $34. Also, some of these toasters were sent to consumers as replacements for model 22600 toasters recalled in June 2011.
If you have a recalled toaster, immediately stop using it. Then contact Hamilton Beach to receive instructions on how to get a free replacement.
