Racy sign pushes for Walker recall

BARABOO (WKOW) - In a town of 14 hundred people, an act of free speech is now the talk of the town.

It's not exactly what it says but what it means.

"And that's not proper thing to put up for children," said Annette Franke, a Baraboo resident.  "They see that and even though its spelled with a 'K' still kids nowadays, they get the message."

The sign is on the property of the 4 Winds Motel, taking a jab at Wisconsin's governor and his ties to billionaire businessman David Koch.

"There is a right way to do things and get the message out  than to have to use vulgar language to get the point across," said Gerald Franke, a Baraboo resident.

The owner didn't want to speak on camera, but says that he and his wife have been putting up messages on their marquee for 30 years, like 'religion is the angel dust of the masses' and 'terrorists also invoke god'.

"And they are saying that Jesus is alright with gay marriages and now we see this up here...it's just ridiculous," said  Gerald.

"It would be better if they took it down but they are exercising their first amendment rights and I'm no judge," said Jim Thies, a Baraboo resident.

And the chair of the Republican Party of Sauk County is not demanding it come down either.

"I think it's distasteful but I've been encouraging our members to just let it go," said Tim McCumber.  "It reflects the level they are willing to go to convey a message."

A message that may be calling for change but stirring up some controversy.

The motel owner says he's not aligned with any political party - he's neither democrat nor republican.  In fact, in the 90's, he says he posted a controversial message about Bill Clinton.

He says the signs usually stay up for about a month, or until his wife comes up with another message for the marquee

BARABOO (WKOW) -- A racy sign is stirring up the conversation about recalling Gov. Scott Walker.

The Baraboo News Republic reports the sign outside the Four Winds Motel says "Recall the Koch Sucker Now!"

The language refers to billionaire David Koch, a campaign contributor to Gov. Walker.

Sabrina Hall is in Baraboo and will have more on this story on 27 News at 5, 6, and 6:30.
