MADISON (WKOW) -- Wisconsin offensive coordinator Paul Chryst was named head coach at the University of Pittsburgh on Thursday.
In the past 2 years Wisconsin has ranked in the top 5 nationally in scoring. In part of 27 News' one-on-one interview with UW head coach Bret Bielema, he says Chryst is a big part of that.
"He's been vital. As offensive coordinator, he's in charge of the game plan and I think we've surrounded him, as well as my entire staff, with good coaches," said Bielema. "Offensive success has a lot of things that go into it: execution, game-planning, being able to adjust within the game, what kind of players you're able to have year in and year out. Paul is a tremendous football coach and that's why he's been sought after in the world of college football. I think overall our staff feels a tremendous amount of pride in the success that the team has and individual recognition is always good."
This is Chryst's first head coaching job. The UW grad and Wisconsin native has been an assistant at multiple colleges, including Oregon State, and he has also worked in the NFL and Canadian Football League.
