Collective bargaining referendum to be on Dane Co. ballot

Posted:

MADISON (WKOW) -- Voters in Dane County can weigh in on collective bargaining rights in April this spring.

Dane County Executive Joe Parisi signed a measure Thursday to put a referendum on the ballot for the April 3 spring election. The referendum question asks: "Should all Wisconsin workers have the right to seek safe working conditions and fair pay through collective bargaining?"

"Governor Walker and the majority in the legislature took away the right to collectively bargain about a year ago when they came into office," Parisi said. "They did so we feel without the input or feedback from the people in the state of Wisconsin."

Parisi said he hopes the referendum will help elected officials know how the public feels about collective bargaining.

Dane County Supervisor Dianne Hesselbein from Middleton wrote the referendum.
