Packers release statement on death of Michael Philbin

GREEN BAY (WKOW) -- Packers General Manager Ted Thompson released the following statement on the death of Michael Philbin:

"The Packers family was saddened to learn of the passing of Michael Philbin, son of offensive coordinator Joe Philbin. Our thoughts and prayers are with Joe, his wife, Diane, and the Philbin family as they cope with their loss. This is an emotional and difficult time for them, and we ask that everyone respect their privacy. All of us in the Packers family share in their grief."

Oshkosh police confirm that the body pulled from the Fox River on Monday is that of the son of Packers offensive coordinator Joe Philbin.

Oshkosh police started searching for Michael Philbin on Sunday night after he disappeared early Sunday morning.

Oshkosh Police Chief Scott Greuel said foul play is not suspected.

Police said Philibin was with friends at University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, which is about 50 miles from Green Bay.

Police said around the time Philbin went missing, a nearby security guard heard someone struggling in that same area of the water.

Greuel said an autopsy will be performed.

Michael Philbin was a junior at Ripon College on the dean's list.
