WASHINGTON (WKOW) – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced a voluntary recall for 44,000 Chariot Carriers bicycle trailers and 70,000 bicycle trailer conversion kits due to an injury hazard.

The CPSC says the bicycle trailer hitch mechanisms can crack and break. If that happens, the trailer can detach from the bicycle, posing an injury hazard to children in the trailer.

Recalled trailers have serial numbers from 1205-xxxx to 0710-xxxx, located the left side on the frame.

The recalled conversion kits have the hitch arms that attach the carrier to the bicycle with model number "20100503" printed on a label attached to the aluminum tube next to the warning label. There are some older kits that don't have a label, but with a release push button located where the hitch arm inserts into the carrier, those are also being recalled.

The recalled items were sold at specialty bicycle stores nationwide and online from December 2005 through August 2010 for the Chariot bicycle trailers. The bicycle trailer conversion kits were sold from October 2002 through August 2011.

If you have one of the recalled items, you should stop using it and contact Chariot Carriers for a free repair kit that you can install.
