MADISON (WKOW) -- After organizers turned in more than one million signatures to recall Governor Scott Walker, thousands of people packed an exhibition hall at the Monona Terrace to celebrate.
The party was yet another rally, but this time, it was an opportunity for volunteers to celebrate exceeding their goals.
"We've been there for the protests, we've been there for the rallies, we've collected signatures, why not celebrate because it's just the beginning of something even bigger," says Melissa Prochaska, a recall volunteer.
Dennis Coyier, a member of the Democratic Party says, "I'm really excited about this. I hope the political climate changes in the state and the nation and I think it's going to start right here in Wisconsin."
But as United Wisconsin organizers, Democratic Party chair Mike Tate, and labor leaders all emphasized, their fight is far from over.
"What we need from you is to stay engaged to do just what you have been doing for the past 11 months, making a difference in this state," says Ryan Freeman, vice-chair of A United Wisconsin.
"I think there's going to be a lot of volunteers and a lot of energy and a lot of opportunity to do whatever they can to make sure the governor is recalled, and I just think this energy can't be duplicated," says Rep. Mark Pocan (D-Madison).
But the Democrats aren't the only ones showing their support. This weekend, Republicans will hold a pro-Walker rally in Wauwatosa. It's expected to draw big names like Tommy Thompson, Mark Neumann and Rep. Jeff Fitzgerald.
Organizers are calling the event a celebration of the governor's accomplishments, rather than an anti-recall rally.
