MADISON (WKOW) -- The Wisconsin Government Accountability Board says they need more workers to tally signatures on recall petitions.
According to spokesman Reid Magney, they need about 50 workers, and only have 30 positions filled right now.
Magney says applicants cannot have made a contribution in the past year to a partisan state candidate, cannot have signed a recall petition, and must pass a criminal background check.
"The temporary service agencies we've been working with have been telling us that our requirement, that people can't have signed the petitions has presented some problems, it's screened some people out," says Magney.
Magney says the GAB will be scanning in petitions this week to provide to incumbents and the public.
"Once that happens, we're going to start going through the petitions page by page, line by line," Magney says.
Magney said these restrictions are important because it will keep the integrity of the review process.
He said a pro-recall worker could hurt the review process by overlooking a suspicious signature, while challenging a signature must be approved by a GAB full time staff member.
The GAB has not yet set a firm schedule in reviewing the recall petitions but they plan to ask for more time.
