MADISON (WKOW) – Wisconsin Democrats are focused on taking back the majority in the State Senate in the projected recall elections, but it won't necessarily help push their agenda.
Democrats said they have collected enough signatures to hold four GOP Senators into elections. The Democrats need to defeat one to take the majority.
Even if the Democrats gain majority, they might find themselves powerless by this time next year and will have no ability to push their agenda.
The legislative session ends in mid-March and elections likely won't happen until late spring. After the end of the legislative session, lawmakers are usually prohibited from introducing any new bills until the new session begins in January 2013.
This would give Republicans a chance to take back majority in November's scheduled elections. The Republicans could get back into power by next January with little change done by the Democrats.
