MADISON (WKOW) -- One of the biggest elections in Wisconsin this year is to replace retiring U.S. Senator Herb Kohl.
But even the candidates say the race is being overshadowed by the recall elections.
Republican Senate candidate Tommy Thompson told the Milwaukee Press Club Monday that because of the recalls, it is going to be a short timeframe for the U.S. Senate race
"It is going to be almost impossible to raise big dollars in the state of Wisconsin. That is because all of the money is going into the recall and Governor Walker's campaign. And the governor's race is the most important one," Thompson said.
Thompson's top Republican challengers, Mark Neumann and Jeff Fitzgerald, both said the focus for now should be on supporting Governor Walker.
The state Democratic party chairman said once the recalls are over, attention will shift back to the Senate race, where Representative Tammy Baldwin is the only Democrat running.
