TAMPA, Fla. (WKOW) -- Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney released information about what he paid in federal income taxes in 2010.
After earning $21.7 million, he shelled out about $3 million in taxes. That makes him one of the wealthiest American taxpayers.
At the same time, Romney gave nearly $3 million to charity -- about half of that to the Mormon Church -- which helped lower his effective tax rate to a modest 14 percent.
Romney's campaign released some details about the former Massachusetts governor's taxes in 2010 and 2011 after Monday night's debate in Tampa, Florida. Officials are planning to release more information Tuesday morning.
Romney's GOP opponents have been pressuring him in recent weeks to release his tax returns.
