MADISON (WKOW) -
Funding for higher education has declined over the past year in almost every state, due to a slow recovery from the recession and the end of federal stimulus money.
That's the finding of the annual Grapevine study, released Monday by Illinois State University's Center for the Study of Education Policy.
Overall, higher ed funding declined by some $6 billion, or nearly 8 percent, over the past year.
The result has been larger class sizes, fewer course offerings and tuition increases at many universities.
Wisconsin had the third largest decrease in funding by percentage, with funding dropping 20.9 percent.
New Hampshire saw the largest drop in funding over the past year, at 41.3 percent.
