MADISON (WKOW) -- Students at Cesar Chavez Elementary School in Madison raised money in the name of their classmate, Nelson Happel.
Nelson is now an energetic second grader at Chavez. He loves football and math.
He is also a cancer survivor. Nelson was diagnosed with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma in August 2010.
So last spring, a small group of teachers led a campaign to sell yellow bracelets, that read "Chavez Cheers for Nelson".
A year-and-a-half after diagnosis, Nelson is back to full days at school with his friends and classmates. And just before winter break, he was there to hand over a check for more than $2,500 to the American Family Children's Hospital.
The kids at Chavez sold at least 500 bracelets at a dollar a piece.
Money donated to the hospital will go towards helping other young patients and families who are dealing with cancer.
