UPDATE: Police looking for suspect in double shooting

Posted:

MADISON (WKOW) -- Madison police have released a description of the alleged gunman in a double shooting on the city's east side Wednesday night.

Police are looking for a black man in his 20's or 30's, about 6' to 6'2'', 240 to 250 lbs. with a heavy build.  Officers say the suspect was wearing dark clothing with a hood.

The police department says a 46-year-old man and a 35-year-old man were each shot in the leg.  Both were taken to the hospital and have since been released.

Police say they believe the 46-year-old was targeted.  Their preliminary investigation indicates the 46-year-old victim was confronted outside of his home by the gunman.  Officers say it appears the victim's dog may have bitten the suspect several times.  Shots were fired following the bites.

Police say the second victim, the 35-year-old man, is the first victim's neighbor.  They say he was hurt while witnessing the dispute between his neighbor and the suspect.

After the shooting, the gunman ran towards Fair Oaks Ave. and Milwaukee St.  A police dog tracked the suspect for some time but ultimately lost the scent.

Anyone with information on a possible suspect should contact Madison Area Crime Stoppers at 608-266-6014.
