Edgar Ivan Salinas-LealMADISON (WKOW) -- Police are looking for the suspected shooter, in Madison's first homicide of 2012. It happened around 8 p.m. Friday, on White Aspen Road, on the city's north side.
Neighbors say it's a quiet area, but that wasn't the case Friday night, when a 38-year-old man was shot in his home, just next door to Ken Robinson's house.
"I was surprised and shocked because they didn't seem like the type of people who would cause trouble," says Robinson.
Madison police spokesperson Joel DeSpain says the city's first homicide of the year started as a domestic-like dispute between two families.
"The two families were not related but they were sharing one side of a duplex. Prior to the shooting there had been a disagreement between the two husbands," says DeSpain.
Authorities say after killing the man, Edgar Ivan Salinas-Leal, 24, fled in the victim's car, with his wife Jessica and their baby. They haven't been seen since. Now, police are out in full force to find out where they've gone.
"We'll canvass the neighborhood, we'll be canvassing areas where they would have had other contacts," says DeSpain.
This isn't the first time police have seen violence in the Northport Drive area, but authorities believe this incident had nothing to do with location. They say it was just a domestic dispute gone wrong.
Robinson says he was never bothered by the two families, and thought they seemed like good neighbors.
"They were friendly, we always had a friendly wave to each other," says Robinson.
So far, police haven't gotten any leads, and with connections to Texas, they expect the couple could be out of the state by now.
Authorities ask that anyone with information call 911 immediately. The couple is thought to be in the victim's car: a blue-green colored 2006 Chevy Uplander with Wisconsin plates--69157D.
The Dane County Medical Examiner is waiting to release the name of the victim until his family is notified.

Right now, police are concerned for the safety of Salinas-Leal's wife Jessica and their infant child. DeSpain says they're not sure whether the two left with Salinas-Leal willingly, or if they were forced to flee.
They ask anyone who sees the Salinas-Leal family or the truck they were driving, a blue-green Chevy Uplander with Wisconsin plates: 69157D, to call 911 immediately.
