MADISON (WKOW) -- This week starts Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Week.
While much of the focus can be on adult heart health - many children with this condition are born with a problem of the hearts structure and function due to an abnormal development before birth.
Amy Baskan, a Wisconsin Advocacy Committee Member of the American Heart Association along with her son Nicholas joined us Sunday on Wake Up Wisconsin Weekend to share more about an event happening this Thursday.
Screening that leads a lot of parents to check for heart defects is not common. That's why the American Heart Association, along with Mended Little Hearts Organization is gathering people to go to Capitol Hill to let legislators know about this issue.
The event is Thursday, Feb 7th at 9:30 a.m. at Inn on the Park.
